Sundays.

Growing up I always loved Sunday. I loved getting dressed up for church, sitting on the same pew with my family, or sitting on my Dads lap up on the stand, giggling in sunday school and young womens with Janessa, watching legacy or the occasional different sunday movie, long naps, roast and potatoes, family picnics, and really the full Sunday experience.

My junior year of high school I started working as a CNA. I worked Sundays and have  ever since. When I first started I was only able to attend church every other week or less. The days I missed church I still felt edified from the elderly I was surrounded by and the service I was giving them. However, over time, I felt my mind set and heart changing. Missing church no longer felt like a big deal. It was just another day. Even though I always attended when I could, in my mind and heart attendance was more difficult. After realizing what was happening, I had to make a conscience effort to change my attitude with the help of the spirit whether I was working or not.

When I returned from Ethiopia the first time I went right back to work, Sundays included. Only this time, I went to church at 9am then went straight to work from 12:30- 8. Sundays felt painfully long. I would miss out on all sorts of family activities, a day to relax, and I would always be exhausted from staying up late Saturday night (which was no ones fault but my own).  It didn't take long for me to start dreading Sunday. I tried to change my attitude and think of the people I was taking care of but it was still very hard. My Sabbath day just wasn't the same.

This year my Sunday work schedule has changed again. To be able to attend church every week I choose to attend my home ward in the afternoon (All of us employees originally had church in the morning). Now I get to work 6am to 12:30 and then rush to church. Unfortunately, I struggle staying awake in church and as happy as I should be these days. Last week I told myself I needed to change that. Today I stayed awake all through sacrament meeting and primary. I made an effort to smile more and talk to people I wouldn't normally talk to. And you know what? Today was a good Sunday. I felt the spirit stronger and uplifted more. The talks were more meaningful, the choir number was so beautiful, and primary was funner. It's a choice people. and If by now you're wondering why I still work on Sunday. Simply stated, I love the elderly I take care of and they still need help on Sunday.

I still love dressing up for church and I loved my outfit today. I follow and stalk a lot of fashion bloggers. It makes me want to post more of my wardrobe choices. Maybe just once a week. Oh, and don't you just love that skirt?? I thrifted it this week for $4. My beautiful necklace came from Ethiopia. I bought it literally off a women I saw at Market. My vest came from Ethiopia as well. It was hand crocheted by a women suffering from leprosy. She, along with others, use their handicraft to be able to provide for her family. oh, cool/nasty story. I haven't had/made time for a shower the last few days...gross. I can't make myself get up early enough to shower before work on Sundays and I don't have time after. So I was going to have to go to church today with a grease ball head. But, I didn't. Instead I put baby powder in it. And you can't even tell, can you??

Hope you had a fabulous Sunday too!

The SWEET and SOUR.

I'm lovin' this whole sweet and sour concept. So much, in fact, that I find myself thinking, "This needs to go on the sweet list!" or "This is definitely sour material!" The problem is, I usually forget when I come to actually write it. Whateves.

- Cold feet
-Working 8pm to 8 am and then going to classes and then taking a test. horrible combo.
-Tedious editing
-The almost part of putting the valentines in the mail. (see below)

- New clothes
-PUTTING THE VALENTINES IN THE MAIL... (almost)
-8hrs of sleep
-Down time
-Photoshoots
-Old people country dance adventures
-Wearing your pjs all Saturday.
-Lunch date with the 90 year old bf.

The Sweet and Sour!

SOUR:
-My Mom told me she wants me to get married this summer, like she's trying to get me out of the house or something??... Kate: Um, Mom, I'm not dating anyone. Mom: Minor detail. Kate: I think I need to DATE the guy for awhile. Mom: Okay, this fall then. oooooh boy.
-Sleeping in and rushing off to class. while sitting there I realized.... I wasn't wearing a bra. Awesome start to the day.
- Deciding to change up the scenery and go study at the PUBLIC library, I know really  getting out there, only to have a group of noisy cub scouts gather at the table next to me.
- The groundhog saw his shadow! Punxsutawney Phil should have closed his eyes.
SWEET:
- Making and eating super yummy Ethiopian food.
- Shaving both my legs and plucking my eyebrows! (This actually happened last week (HA!) but a big enough victory that it had to be noted.)
- Getting an awesome package in the mail. Thanks Ronelle for the book and letter!
- Training a baby chicken in psychology which really was just staring at a cute chick all class.
- Trying to find someone to work your Friday night shift then realizing you weren't actually scheduled.
- Not bombing a chemistry test.
- Having an adventure planned for Saturday night!

Happy LOVE month!

Can I call this a love month when there is really only a love day?
I say I can.
I have no significant other.
Which for a lot of people ruins the holiday.
not me.
I like holidays too much for that.
Gives another reason to celebrate!
and there is a lot of things about life worth celebrating.
SO
to celebrate love day I'm making Valentines cards.
I've been scheming ideas.
AND
I'll send you one, if you want.
BUT
you have to leave a comment.
and probably your address.
or email it to me.
Don't be shy.

Much LOVE,
Kate

P.s I might even send you candy if you start following me... maybe.

The Sweet and Sour!

SOUR:
- Over the past month I've been having bad stomach pain. A sharp pain that shoots through my gut, usually after I eat.  I've experienced it before, when I first got in Ethiopia. I half joke that I have a parasite. Yesterday I watched a nasty video of a little girl having worms surgically removed from her intestine. Today I read up on symptoms... Maybe I should go to the doctor.
- Having a little nephew empty a tub of gel on your mirror and bed and you can't even get mad because he looks so cute with the other half in his hair.
-My Mother went to warm AZ and I'm stuck in cold Rexburg. Batam Biiird!
-Walking out of the house reguarly for the day looking like you "just got hit by a bus." hotttttie.
-Having 4 test one week then 3 the next. Can't a girl catch a break??
- Waking up at 5:30 am four days a week.
- Realizing there is not enough time in the day to complete everything that has to be done.
-Having a malfunction with photoshop while needing to edit an entire engagement session. (Don't worry, Cassie and Kenny, it's all fixed now!)

SWEET:
- Sunday night Alyssa and I made an ingera start. Which triggered the coolest dream that night!... I was back in Ethiopia AND speaking in Amharic!! This is a sign I need to go back, right?
- Making delicious veggie couscous, green salad, and salmon for the Father.
-Getting a free download of a Joshua James song.
- Actually getting homework done on time. Can I get a hooraww!
- Talking with my amazing Ethiopian Family on skype even when some can only speak 5 words in English.
- Receiving thank-you notes.
-Feeling the spirit while being remind of the importance of our choices at church this Sunday.
- Going to bed at 10 pm.
-Making a wish on a shooting star soaking in the hot tub.
-Hearing "the dumbest song you ever heard" sung by a 90 year old. The video won't upload, sorry.

...flashback...(massive adventure/partying update in photos)

Lets start here.

During Christmas break I got together with all these lovely gals.
We reminisced, giggled, caught up, laughed, and ICE SKATED, like pros I might add.

After some good warming up, we decided it was time to pull out our stunts!
It didn't end well.
We're awesome.

Next stop, New Years Eve.

Ellie and I got our shop on.
We got some sweet deals, like always.

We even ate on a budget! and I just love corn dogs.

The partying didn't end with corn dogs...

Us (yelling outside): HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Neighbor: YOU'RE 3 MINUTES LATE.
Us: whatever as we continued to dance it up.

Janessa and Chloe got pretty close.

And the lovely Tristen put a hair wrap in for me
sadly, it fell out this week.  :(

Oh, I went blonde.

And Chloe went brown.

AND THEN, Cassie called us with news... she got ENGAGED!!
So, of course we had to go see her.
We all had different reactions to it...

"AHH, I"M ENGAGED" dancing occurred.

Ellie and I had New years toasts!
oh, working at 6am new years morning was not the funnest thing.

ENGAGEMENT PARTY!
FOOD and the HOT TUB were wonderful.
Did our nails and watched vampire diaries. In my opinion, they looked great.

This is big news: I am now sporting a rockin' pony tail!!
sure I have a million bobby pins in but a pony tail is a pony tail, right?

Hot pool adventure!
What started as a big group ended up only being me and Sam.
and we loved it.

We explored a ghost town and got frozen feet.
saw wildlife.

Hike to gold bug hot springs on a beautiful sunny day and soaked.

then froze hiking back all wet.

but not really.
Then we got stuck in Leadore with no gas... gas station was closed at 6. They still have pumps without a credit card machine?? yes, yes they do. Thanks Aunt Susan and Uncle Steve for saving us!!

Life is good.

Notes to self...

1. Try not to fall asleep in primary ever again. responsible teacher right here.
2. Keep going on dates with 90 year olds.

3. Don't fall asleep for 2 1/2 hours when it is 5 PM.
4. Go ice fishing this winter.
5. Manage time better.
6. Remember this:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Thanks Mark Twain.

7.  You really are a good shopper. (2 dresses, skirt, tank, 2 belts, and 4 shirts. all for $40)

8. Get more sleep. 5 hours a night is (obviously) not cutting it.
9. Make injera this weekend.
10. Don't blog so much about your sleeping habits and instead get the blog caught up or at least do your homework.
